The Objective
The objective of 'Quedo' is for the competing teams to solve the puzzle of who murdered the character Doctor Black. There are 6 possible suspects, 6 potential weapons and 9 suspected scenes of crime and only by successfully working out and linking all three elements of the dastardly deed, will one of the competing teams take the maximum points and become the 'super sleuths'!
The Event Structure
'Quedo' can be staged indoors or outdoors, and will utilise challenges and tasks that fit with the chosen environment, and the physical fitness and overall abilities of the delegates.
At the start of 'Quedo' each team will be issued with a coloured magnifying glass token. The colour of the token will determine which of the 'Detective Points' (DP’s) each team will visit first. 21 (DP’s) will be set up covering the entire indoor or outdoor event area. At each of the DP’s the teams will be faced with a challenge which could be mental or physical, a puzzle or a task. The team must complete that challenge and once they have done so they will be given a code word which will prove they have visited that DP. Most importantly the teams will also be given a card illustrating either one of the suspects, one of the murder weapons or one of the scenes of crime. Just like the board game the teams need to take care of these cards, they are crucial to the team’s success.
Once a challenge is completed the team will move to a control point set up in the centre of the event area. The control point is the Criminal Investigation Department, (CID) and will be run by members of Team Quest. The teams will have to present their code word to the CID to prove they have visited and completed the challenge at each DP. In return for the correct code word the CID will give the teams another differently coloured magnifying glass token and from that the teams will work out which challenge they will go to and tackle next.
The teams will continue with the process of completing challenges, earning suspect, weapon and scenes of crime cards and returning to the CID.
Once a team believes they have earned enough cards to start deducing who was the murderer they must then return again to the CID, to make their accusation. However, they will need to think and work very closely together as a team before they make that decision, because every time they make a false deduction they will be given penalty points.
The team which arrives at the right answer first will earn the greatest number of points, but there is a big incentive for the other teams to carry on with their detective work in order to accumulate the greatest number of points possible so that they finish as close to the winning team as possible.
'Quedo' is designed to be a fast and fun event, but with the twist of requiring:
-
Careful teamwork
-
Considered trade-off decisions
-
Role allocation
-
Strategising, and
-
Good communication skills
It can be run very successfully in a 3~4 hour slot and can employ a whole variety of challenges from simple puzzles to climbing walls and mountain bike courses, dependant upon budget and requirement.
