Quest worked with the leading UK provider of infrastructure services, Morgan Est during October. One of their teams took part in a Belbin Team Role and Recipe for Success cooking team building programme.

The day started with the Belbin session, during which in addition to learning about their own preferred team roles, the team members learned a great deal about their colleagues too.

The session dealt with some of the theory around the Belbin process and allowed the team some time to refect and absorb. Then it was time to get on with some hands-on stuff, and in two sub-teams they tackled a practical collage exercise, which revealed a great deal about preferred team behaviour. Once that was completed it was time to review questionnaires, and this process helped team members further in their understanding of the contributions they make to their work teams.

After lunch, the team was again divided into two different sub-teams and they started the day’s practical team challenge, Recipe for Success. This tasked the teams with planning, shopping for, cooking and serving at least a 3 course gourmet meal for their team, and enough for Team Quest to taste and score too! This was the time to put into practice some of the lessons learned in the Belbin session, in addition to putting into practice ideas discussed about communication, time management, planning and role allocation.

Both teams set about the challenge with a huge amount of enthusiasm and energy, and it wasn’t long into the afternoon before saucepans were steaming, and wonderful aromas were coming from the respective team’s kitchens. Too many cooks defineately did not spoil the broth and neither teams turned their preparation areas into hells kitchens!

By 18.30 both teams were ready to serve, and what a feast they enjoyed, and what delights they served to Quest as part of the scoring process. The day and evening was a huge success, and addressed a wide range of team building issues, as well as inspiring team members to get back into the kitchen.
