On 7th March, Quest was pleased to work once again with a major player in the IT Testing Industry, at a Consultant Away Day.
Quest were asked to deliver a team building event to be take place during a number of other development sessions being run over a weekend.
To fit best with the objectives and aims of the programme, the team building needed to take place indoors and to enable the delegates to be able to practice:
- Communication skills and styles
- Effective time management
- The rapid and effective dissemination of detailed information
- Creativity and lateral thinking
- Managing a range of challenges as a team
In addition the team building needed to facilitate the delegates’ practical application of theoretical learning of Belbin team types, completed in a session prior to taking part in the Quest experiential learning session.
With those objectives and aims very much in mind Quest delivered an intervention entitled TV Newscast.
The overall team were split into two sub-teams and given their highly detailed and intentionally lengthy task brief.
Their first task was to understand that they had a precise time period in which to fully prepare for and rehearse delivery of a TV newscast to live camera.
Having established that primary task objective, the sub-teams then had to work together on precisely how their broadcast would be delivered. This included:
- Deciding on precise content from a highly prescriptive list
- Allocating team roles
- Developing and making props
- Deciding on relevant and appropriate costumes
- Writing scripts
- Carefully calculating delivery timings
- Rehearsing
In addition to this big team challenge the teams were also bounced with surprise tasks, which had to be prepared for and delivered with very little advance warning.
Both teams worked hard within their strictly managed time slot and as the clock finally ticked down to live camera were waiting nervously in the wings, making their last minute preparations.
Then right on cue the camera went live to the newsroom and the first broadcast was on air. The second team followed smoothly on from the first and delivered an equally polished performance.
The team build was a great success, all of the objectives were met or exceeded and all of the delegates had a lot of fun too.
