Quest Team Building with Marsh Again
Quest was delighted to be asked to deliver team building for Marsh again in September 2011.
Following the tremendous feedback from the Marsh Team Walk Challenge in 2009 & 2010, Quest was asked to run the event for a third year, this time using the beautiful countryside in and around Longleat in Wiltshire.
Marsh Choose Help for Heroes and Scope
The previous two years team building events have raised some terrific amounts of money for some very deserving charities, and this year it was decided that the 400 people taking part in the team building challenge would donate all the money they had raised to Help for Heroes (H4H) and Scope.
As usual H4H sent a great team along to help promote the wonderful work they do, and in the evening they ensured the ballroom was fit for heroes and it looked resplendent in red and two shades of blue.
The Lions of Longleat
Every year the Team Walk Challenge event has a theme and this year with the team building being held at Centre Parcs in the world famous wildlife park, it was decided that the wild animals of Africa should form the core of the Theme.
As usual two courses to cater for all capabilities was planned and laid, and on both of the courses the teams of five had to complete a whole series of challenges in addition to completing the course.
One of the most popular of the challenges was the Unusual Photo Challenge, which involved the teams arriving at Heaven’s Gate beauty spot where two members of the Quest team were waiting.
The Marsh walkers had to think up the wackiest team photo possible, potentially using the amazing pieces of huge sculpture placed at this location, and then get Quest to take a photograph.
One of the best was undoubtedly what appeared to be 4 members of one team all standing on the giant hand of the remaining team member. Very clever.
Getting to Know One Another
As with so much of the team building that Quest delivers with organisations, this event needed to give all 400 participants the opportunity to meet and get to know as many of their colleagues as possible.
As usual simple face to face communication was required.
Following the animals theme, Quest devised an ingenious method of facilitating this by issuing all the teams with randomly selected photos of half an animal’s head.
During the walk, every time a team came across another team they had to try and match up their half head say of a leopard, with the other half of a leopards head.
At the very least the vast majority of the participants had said hello to each other by the end of the day, and many teams had collected an impressive array of photos.
Competition Is High Again
As has been the case for the past two years, whilst some of the teams used the weekend simply to meet and socialise with as many unfamiliar colleagues as possible, the majority wanted to compete hard against their colleagues too.
For some that just meant wearing the most unusual fancy dress possible!
For many others it meant really going for it, and visiting as many electronically managed checkpoints as possible and once there successfully completing as many of the activities as they could.
By the time that the teams came to the last Check Point of the team building event excitement was mounting about who may have won, especially from the team who had earned the top spot at the two preceding year’s events.
Patience had to be maintained for a little longer though until the fund raising dinner that evening when it was revealed that The Team Walk Challenge has new reigning champions, and “Still Running on Empty” collected their prize, and a huge round of applause.
Huge Assistance Given to Help For Heroes and Scope
Prior to the event a terrific amount had already been raised for these amazing charities from all of the teams entry fees.
The finale to the team building event, the charity gala dinner was the other chance to raise some big money from the raffle and an auction.
Bernice Brady from H4H gave a wonderful after dinner presentation on the work that she and all the other volunteers do to help our service men and women, and the result of everyone’s efforts from the whole team build was that in excess of £21,000 was raised.
